Cardiosurgery 2 (heart diseases)

Cardiosurgery department №2 treats patients with atelocardia of patients 15 plus, aquired heart valvular disease   (of rheumatic origin and after infectious endocarditis, aortic aneurisms, heart tumors, combined pathologies (acquired valve pathology and   и CHD), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart rhythm disturbances (sick sinus syndrome, disturbance of atrioventricular conduction). The department plans an annual conduction of 300-400 heart operations, 100-130 rhythm disturbance operations.

The department carries out research work dedicated to mini-invasive technologies in correction of   inherent and acquired  valve defects.

Qualified specialists carry out detailed cardio examination and will order an individual  drug therapy they will recommend after  discharge from the hospital.

The department has 6 surgeons, 4 cardiologists, 2 perfusionists, 17 qualifies nurses.

The department hosts  the chair of surgical pathologies №2 of the KSMU.

Kinds of Surgeries

• Operations on aortal and great arteries involvement

Cardiosurgery department №2 carries out both urgent and planned reconstructive operations on bloodstream segments, starting with ascending aorta portion. It includes: ascending aorta portion replacement in aneurism (including in required aortic valve replacement).

• Surgical treatment of adults’ congenital and acquired heart valvular diseases 

Surgeries on replacement of adults’ valves (aortic, mitral) of congenital or acquired pathology are carried out with use of domestic models (“Carbonics”, “Medinzh- 2” ) or bicuspid valves produced by “Carbomedics” or “Sorin” companies. Valve-preserving surgeries such as mitral and tricuspid valvuloplasty (by means of raphes or ferrule) in cases of their incompetence, chordothomy surgeries, commissurotomy in cases of mitral stenosis  are being widely implemented.

Successful surgeries on elimination of atrial and ventricular septal defects, in cases of anomalous pulmonary veins drainage and other surgeries are performed.

Concurrent surgeries in cases of valvular defects and concomitant coronary heart disease are carried out.

• Treatment of cardiac rhythm disturbance and cardial conduction

For the purpose of treatment of cardiac rhythm disturbance and cardiac conduction (sick sinus syndrome, atrioventricular conduction disorder, ciliary arrhythmia with complete transverse heart block) they install domestic pulse generators (produced by “Elestim-cardio”) or imported (produced by “Vitatron” or “Medtronic” company) in the department.
