The first operation in the interventional radiology department was performed on March, 15 2001.
Initially, the department was equipped with two angiography systems; only procedures on peripheric vessels were carried out. Since 2004, operations for coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction have been done. Since 2005, surgical interventions for congenital heart disease and stenotic lesions of extracranial cerebral arteries have been performed. Since 2007, endovascular interventions for cerebral vascular diseases (aneurysmal disease, arteriovenous malformations, and ischemic brain injuries) are carried out. Endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysms is implemented actively. Since 2010, the planned modernization of the equipment has taken place, and today the department is equipped with three modern angiographic systems. Since 2012, staff of the department does the operations on the radiofrequency ablation of renal arteries in patients with resistant hypertension.
Every year more than 3,000 diagnostic procedures and more than 1,000 endovascular, minimally invasive interventions for vascular disease are performed in the interventional radiology department. That includes:
A distinctive feature of the department is performing a wide range of interventions at virtually any vascular pathology. In terms of interventions for vascular disease of the brain, peripheral artery disease performed in 2012, the intervention radiology department of ICDC is in the top ten leading clinics in the Russian Federation.
The staff of the department consists of 10 doctors (four MD, PhDs).
Branch staff published more than 90 research papers. Various methodological workshops with the participation of physicians from regions of the Russian Federation are held in the department. Members of the staff are teaching assistants in Kazan medical university where Interventional radiology course is organized. In 2011, the head of the interventional radiology department took the Ak chechekler prize – got the title of Doctor of the Year for the Republic of Tatarstan in the category of a unique case.
